Little Miss
I’ve always had a suspicion that cats choose who they want to live with, but when Melanie, one of our clients, came in with her new kitten, Little Miss, I became a true believer! On New Year’s Eve, Melanie was driving her SUV on a back, rural road “in the middle of nowhere”, when something darted out in front of the car. Melanie slammed on her breaks and slid into the ditch trying to avoid the creature. When the car stopped, she apprehensively opened the door, only to see a small, torti-colored kitten sitting unconcernedly in the middle of the road. As soon as Melanie opened the door, the kitten launched herself into the car, jumped onto Melanie, and curled up in her lap. Purring. It was as if she were saying, “It took you long enough to get here, and you might try driving more carefully next time!”

So, I’m a believer. Melanie has no idea where Little Miss came from. The section of road she was driving on is not close to any houses or farms, but the kitten is obviously used to people. She has currently taken over Melanie’s house, happily bossing around the extensive menagerie that lives there too. Melanie briefly wondered if there was room for one more, but soon realized that there really was no question. Little Miss faced down an SUV to be with her. Melanie has had the good fortune to be chosen by a cat!
